Playing with research
Welcome.
I’m Mayra Salazar Volkmann (She/Her).
I’m a PhD Candidate at UMC Utrecht/Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
My research focuses on playful interventions to exposing the hidden curriculum in medical education.
Projects
-
I’m currently working on a scoping review and critical interpretive synthesis of the various hidden curriculum norms present in medical education, using an ecological analytic framework.
-
This study will centre on exposing the hidden curriculum at the Utrecht university medical centre (UMCU) by means of a playful intervention.
-
A comparative study, stay tuned on what we’re comparing!
-
This research forms part of a larger interfaculty Utrecht University project tasked at creating games and playful interventions to expose the hidden curriculum in higher education.
These games feature in my research, but this project spans beyond!
Stay tuned for our toolbox. Find out more here.

When alien life is discovered on a distant planet, bicultural ecologist Aylin Samayoa is pulled into a global race to define, classify, and claim it; forcing her to confront whether science can remain neutral in a polraised world when discovery becomes the first act of colonization.

Janssen combines education and research by focusing on educational research in his teaching. He makes the importance of educational research for educational practice clear through lectures, blogs and social media
Janssen is program director of the Bachelor of Educational Sciences, the Academic Teacher Training in Primary Education and the Master of Educational Sciences. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning and Associate Editor of the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning.
Promoter | UMC UtrechtGönül Dilaver
Prof. Dr. Gönül Dilaver (She/Her) is the director of the Bachelor’s programme in Biomedical Sciences and Professor of Higher Education at UMC Utrecht and Utrecht University. Her work focuses on educational innovation, educational research and curriculum development within biomedical sciences and higher education.
Throughout her career, she has combined expertise in Cell Biology with educational innovation, educational research, and inclusive teaching practices. I am particularly interested in how higher education can foster inclusive learning environments, and socially responsive approaches to science and biomedical practice. Currently, we are working on a major redesign of the Biomedical sciences curriculum, in which we aim to strengthen context-rich education and further connect biomedical sciences with societal challenges and perspectives.
